Journey to Adulthood

For young people from 6th through the 12th grades & College

Saint Timothy's uses the Journey to Adulthood curriculum. This program is based on two key concepts.

Manhood and womanhood are gifts from God.
    Adulthood is earned.

Youth ministry works on the philosophy that Christian formation is a life-long process and that young people need a firm foundation on which to build.

With this in mind, there is a continual exploration of the four aspects of a whole person.

    Self
    Spirituality
    Sexuality
    Society

Through a systematic curriculum relating Scripture and Tradition to everyday life, this program instructs youth in skills needed for successful participation in the church community and in society.

The curriculum falls into three distinct phases.

“Rite13” (Grades 6 & 7)

This phase assists young people in taking their first steps from their families into their own lives. The group forms a community, encouraging the gift of friendship and creating a safe place to explore new ideas, interests and abilities.

“J2A” (Grades 8 & 9)

This core phase blends action and contemplation in teaching young people faithful living. It equips youth for adult participation in the Church.

“YAC” (Grades 10, 11,12 & College)

YAC is an acronym for “Young Adults in Church.” This class encourages the pursuit of adult responsibilities in all aspects of parish life and the community. During this time, youth continue to study the “whole person” as they decide as a group, topics that they would like to discuss as well as partnering with Haven House and Millennium Development Goals to our youngest parish members.

In all three phases of The Journey to Adulthood program, Bible study, prayer, outreach and both serious and playful activities are balance to nurture them through the difficult passages from childhood to adulthood.
