The Vestry of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church

The Vestry of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church is a 12-member board of parishioners elected by and representative of the parish to fill the lay role in church governance.  Each January at the annual meeting, four members are elected to replace those whose terms are ending.  A Senior Warden, this year Joy Rouse, is then appointed by the Rector, and the Junior Warden, now Hank Conard, is elected by the vestry.

In 2020 we began the year by creating three documents to be the foundation of our work: Vestry Responsibilities (a revised job description), Vestry Norms (how we do this job), and Vestry Covenant (how we seek to conduct ourselves as members of the St. Timothy’s vestry and greater community).

All are living documents and will be revised as times and circumstances change. I invite you to read especially this Covenant and join us in committing to it as a way of being an active member in the St. Timothy’s family following the teachings of Jesus.

Julia M. Amies

Julia earned her magna cum laude Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics at Northwest Missouri University, her CPA certificate in 1997 (CPA), her Certificate of Educational Achievement in Estate Planning in 1998 (NATEP), and her Certified Specialist in Estate Planning credentials in 1999. (CSEP). Her career path took her from private secretary to secondary teacher, then the owner of an accounting firm before she retired from a position as legal assistant in the law firm of McGrath, North, Mullin & Kratz, P.C., in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2004. Her work experience at McGrath North covered all aspects of estate and wealth transfer planning, retitling, and compliance; small business reporting and compliance; personal, fiduciary, gift and estate taxation; corporate formation and compliance; estate and trust administration; and financial analysis.
Since her retirement, Julia has enjoyed having time to indulge her passion for gardening and painting, and has traveled extensively internationally, having visited in over one hundred countries. Julia is married to Gerald Amies. She is the mother of three and grandmother to eight.
Julia has served St. Timothy’s as coordinator for its support of Episcopal Relief and Development, and as lector/intercessor. She currently serves on St. Timothy’s Endowment Fund Committee.

Joyce Helton
Joyce is a retired Regular and Special Education School Teacher having served the public school system for 30 years. She taught for 10 years in the Illinois School System and 20 years in the Parkway School District. In 1975, she and her family moved from Illinois to Missouri. The six children, now adults, have all moved to various parts of the U.S. She has six grandchildren, including a set of 15-year-old twin boys,
who frequently attended St. Timothy’s on Saturday evenings. She is now a widow and lives less than two miles from church. Close enough to ride her John Deere Mower to St. Timothy’s!
After moving to Creve Coeur, they started attending St. Timothy’s at the recommendation of their neighbors. Joyce recalls that they were pleased with the cheerful greeting that they received as they walked into church. In fact, all those that they came in contact with were delightful and they knew that they had found their second new home. Soon, she was asked to be a Sunday School teacher, a position she knew she was cut out for and enjoyed. Away from teaching and family, her passions include
yardwork, gardening and arranging flowers.
She has continued to serve St. Timothy’s, currently on the Pastoral Care Committee. She is the coordinator of the Sympathy cards, and supplies meals and rides to our parishioners. Through the years she regularly attended the Saturday evening service and the Wednesday morning service. Since Covid, she has joined a daily prayer group of St. Timothy members, past and present. She is the standing Canticle reader, having demonstrated her love for it over the past 2 ½ years.
She loves the people at St. Timothy’s and has made many close and dear friends. She especially missed the never-ending St. Tim’s Peace and the Hugs. Weather permitting, and with the blessing of the parish, she hopes to be seen riding the John Deere to the Vestry Meetings. (In the spirit of caring for her neighbors, don’t be surprised if several lawns are moved en route).

In her free time, Phyllis likes to travel internationally and domestically, crochet, gardening, and spending quality time with her five grandchildren from her elder children.
A quiky thing about Phyllis is she can be a Polly Annie and Sanguine personality at the same time.

Louise Pooley

Louise joined St Timothy’s in 1997 after moving to St Louis from England.  During her time as a member of the congregation she has attended every service except for the 5p.m. Saturday service.  Currently, she mainly attends the 9a.m. service with her children – William (15) and Amelia (7) and has been an intercessor and acted as a host family for that service.   Over the last 20 years she has been an active member of the parish by teaching Sunday School, volunteering for Vacation Bible School, and serving as an Endowment Fund Trustee.  Most recently, she has led the Finance Committee and Family Ministries and has participated in the Women’s Book Club. Her family has regularly attended the annual Family Camp at Trout Lodge and William participates in the youth programs.
She completed her college education here in the United States graduating from UMSL with a B.S. in Accounting and an MBA.  She founded her own accounting firm in 2007 which provides services to small businesses and nonprofit organizations.  She regularly teaches classes on QuickBooks for the local chapter of SCORE.  Prior to founding her company, she worked in the accounting field in large corporations, privately held companies and nonprofit organizations here and in England.
In her free time Louise likes to spend time riding her bike – participating in the Pedal the Cause ride for the first time in 2021, working in her garden, participating in a book club, and spending time with her children.

Hank Conard

I am a cradle Episcopalian who grew up on a farm in small town in Michigan and went to Purdue to become an Aerospace Engineer.  I spent the last 30 years at Boeing in various roles in Aerospace Engineering and Management with special assignments on Boeing’s Diversity & Inclusion Council as well as the Employee Community Fund Board of Directors which awarded grants to local non-profits.  Along the way I married Amy, got my MBA at St Louis University and raised two boys Jacob (Sophomore at Case Western) and Peter (Sophomore in High School).
Amy and I have been at St Tim’s since 1994.  During that time, I’ve been on the Vestry, Stewardship, Finance, Worship, Discernment and Reaching Out Committees as well as a term leading acolytes.  I also play in the Sunday morning guitar group, participate in men’s Bible Study, and am a cameraman in the newly formed audio visual team that live streams our services to Facebook.
I happily retired early this fall so I could devote more meaningful time volunteering at a number of local non-profits.  My days are spent as an English and US citizenship tutor with the Immigrant Home English Learning Program (IHELP), as a gardener and handyman south of Delmar with Love the Lou, on the eBay team at Wings of Hope where we turn donated items into free medical flights for sick children, and finally as an Assistant Scout master with our scout troop.
I would love to be part of the Vestry team that will grow our mission out of the pandemic into all the opportunities that lie ahead.

Sam Snyder

I was raised Episcopalian, living in Ferguson and going to church at St. Stephen's.  I once drew people to the church carnival by walking up and down a very busy Florissant Road in full clown costume and makeup, which should prove my willingness to think outside the box on the vestry!  After earning a bachelor's in History at UMSL, I met my better half Ashley while earning a master's in History at WashU, where we began attending Sts. Michael and George.  I then spent eleven years in UMSL Admissions, during which we had our daughter Madeleine.

In 2018, I took a job handling insurance for Enterprise, moved to Creve Coeur, and joined St. Tim's.  It was a big year for the Snyder family; Maddy also started kindergarten at Spoede.  We immediately felt welcome at St. Tim's and are happy to be part of such a warm community.

In my free time, I particularly enjoy reading, walking, and spending time with my family.  Many of you have probably seen us at the 9 AM service, though we went to the 10:45 occasionally.  I've tried to participate in church life as best I can and have enjoyed my time at potlucks, church camp, and other events.  I would be honored to serve on the vestry and hope to help the church fulfill its mission in these challenging times.

Willard Moseley

I was born in St. Lous and have lived here most of my life. A cradle Episcopalian baptized at St. Michaels and St. George (Clayton). As an adolescent, my family bought a radio station in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I was confirmed at St. Luke’s and trained as an acolyte there.

As an adult, I have been a member of three parishes, Emmanuel (Webster Groves), St. Mark’s (Berkeley, CA) and since 2010, St Tims. I have been a delegate to the Diocesan convention twice, as well as teaching Sunday School for many years. At St. Tim’s I have chaired the Worship Committee, Spirituality group, and the Harvest of Hope band concert. I have also been involved with the Stewardship committee. I have previously served on the Vestry and as Junior Warden. My true passion at St. Tims is singing tenor in the choir. I love being a small part of something so beautiful, praising the Lord in song. I met my beautiful wife LaVerne at St Tims. We were married at the 5:00 o’clock service one very fine day in April 2012. Since my life has been filled with indescribable joy, adventure, and faith.

I am very grateful and humbled to be asked to serve on the vestry in this time of great change. I am looking forward to finding new way for us to radiate Christ’s presence in our parish and community.
